Chautauqua is much more than just an iconic park at the base of Boulder's most famous rock structures. It's also the sprawling neighborhood surrounding the historic park. Chautauqua is one of the oldest neighborhoods in town, provides ample views of the Flatirons, and is within walking distance of all the amenities of the Colorado Chautauqua Association. The homes are a charming mixture of some Victorian style and Craftsman mixed with modern house designs. Due to its proximity to CU, there are also some apartments and student rental properties. The Colorado Chautauqua was started in 1898 as a type of summer enrichment program for Texas schoolteachers. It has been continuously running ever since, presenting outdoor lectures, concerts, and film screenings for the public.
